People-centred Development: Towards Pro-poor Sustainable Development

People-centred Development program focuses on promoting development policy alternatives that touch directly the people’s economy, and promoting tax transparency and accountability of international investment to local development. It will focus on the saving from the extraction of natural resources, the tax justice campaign, research and campaign on investment as sustainable development is concerned, and impact of investment to local economy.

People-centred development comes back again to the centre stage of development thoughts in thelast few years responding to the facts and policies of development that neglect the rights of the citizens, the dispossession of rights of the people to natural resources and to development itself, and the policies that prioritize global market operation within the country and neglecting the welfare of the citizens.

Learning from the food, fuel, financial and climate crises both at global and at national level in the last few years (and since 1997/1998 crises for Indonesia), where the livelihood of the peasants and labour have been deeply affected, there should be fundamental and sustainable shift of thoughts on development from market-led economic development towards people-centred development, where people should become both as actors and beneficiaries of development.
